IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT TUITION FEES
From September 2006 no full-time undergraduate student will have to pay fees up-front.
Instead, both new and existing students will be able to defer payment of their tuition fees until after they leave higher education by taking out, if they wish, a ‘fee loan’ from the Student Loan Company which they will repay once they have left university and are earning over £15,000 a year. The maximum fee loan available would be £3,000 a year for new students and around £1,200 for existing students.
From September 2006 universities will be allowed to vary the fees they charge students. Universities will be able to charge between zero and £3,000 per year. Fees will not rise by more than the rate of inflation before 2010 at the earliest.

- SISTER is a British Council funding route map for UK researchers, postgraduates and international students who are seeking funding for international collaboration in science & technology.
- The Wellcome Trust offers grants for research in the general areas: Biomedical research; history of medicial research; research in biomedical ethics; public understanding of science.
- The Royal Society’s international programme provides grants for scientific research visits to and from the UK.
- British Academy awards are offered for postdoctoral research in the humanities and social sciences.
- 'Times Higher Education Supplement' appears weekly and has a page on sources of research funding.
- Your UK institution may have funding available or ideas on where to look.
