New Work New Audiences is the British Council’s creative arts project, which builds long-term relationships between the UK and the Middle East and North Africa through increased mutual collaboration, based on the wealth of heritage and skills in the region. The project showcases the region’s creative industries and commercial arts by exploring the artistic mediums of film, music, creative writing, visual arts and design.
Creative Arts in the Middle East and North Africa
In the Middle East and North Africa region, the New Work New Audiences project will harness the creative energies of emerging artists, both in the traditional arts and in newer, more avant-garde and fusion art spheres, by creating collaborations of mutual interest with artists and creative education specialists in the UK.
The Middle East and North Africa region comprises of a mixed blend of cultures, languages and heritages. We believe that the language of art can be a unifying platform through which we can explore and truly appreciate the richness and diversity of the region’s creative economy. The New Work New Audiences project aims to link emerging artists of the region with the skills, knowledge and expertise they need to showcase their talent to a global audience. The project has already been very successful in Lebanon and Palestine where Akram Khan’s ‘Vertical Road’ was shown to a large audience.
New Work New Audiences in Morocco will be delivered using a variety of approaches:
