The British Council has partnered up with the Arab Woman Channel, specifically; the ‘Women in the Economy’ talk show hosted by Ghada Ballout Zeitoun, in an attempt to highlight the key issues facing women and the youth in our societies and to provide a platform that encourages discussion over topics that are of interest to them.
The ‘Women in the Economy’ show aims at showcasing the positive role that women in our Arab societies have on economical and social developments. It has been on air since 2007 and boasts a regional and global reach of around two million viewers. The show is composed of three components:
This objective coincides with the British Council’s Women at Work programme which aims at encouraging young women in the region and the UK to explore different career options and challenge perceptions and stereotypes of the types of careers that are suitable for women.

The ‘Women in the Economy’ show has recently launched a series of specialised episodes pertaining to the Arab Youth and their interaction with their peers from around the world. This will cumulate in July 2010 into a regional symposium of which the British Council in Lebanon is sponsoring.
