Applied Linguistics Virtual Library – a key site for links to journals, conferences, courses, people. Users can register to be e-mailed when significant changes are made to the site.

British National Corpus – 100 million word collection of samples of written and spoken language from a wide range of sources. Non-subscribers can carry out simple searches without payment.

Corpus Linguistics – a website maintained by Michael Barlow at Rice University Texas, with an extensive set of links (including foreign languages).

Directory of MA dissertations – abstracts of almost 100 MA dissertations written by students at Surrey University's English Language Institute.

The Eclectic Company – part of John Lawler's sprawling jumble of web pages, this is probably the most comprehensive set of links about language and linguistics on the web. Fascinating place to browse and a must for anyone doing research. Don't miss the Chomskybot.
