How the funding works

Travel to contact seminars and receive support for joint projects

Teachers will be funded to attend contact seminars, and grants will be available to the partnerships which arise.

How much funding is available?
The programme will cover the cost of return flights (or other transport as appropriate) for one teacher to attend a contact seminar in the Middle East region. Accommodation and subsistence costs associated with the 3-day event - where schools will find their project partners - will also be covered. All arrangements will be made by the programme team.  The programme will also cover the costs of a reciprocal visit by teachers from the Middle East to attend a UK Study Tour and visit their UK partner school in the later stages of the project.

Partnerships created at the contact seminars may then receive joint curriculum project funding for up to two years. This will be allocated as £1,200 per annum for each partnership. Schools may contribute funding from other sources. Please note that it may not be possible for all partnerships to include mobility and this should not be considered a priority.

What can be funded in the project phase?

resources for the project e.g. paper, pens, fabric, art materials and other resources used in the classroom for project activities, hire of equipment, photocopying, printing
information about the partner countries e.g. books, maps, videos, DVDs
communication costs e.g. postage, telephone, e-mail, fax, line rental
dissemination events e.g. hire of venue, newsletter, website costs
Travel expenses to visit the partner e.g. airfares, train/bus, visas, insurance, inoculations, accommodation and subsistence. Often, partner schools will arrange for visiting teachers to be accommodated by a host family or member of staff. This can bring economies to the project.

What can't be funded in the project phase?

the purchase of whole computer systems or the following; - modem, CD-writer, fax machine, telephone (including mobile phone), or reprographic machines
supply cover or other staffing costs
Travel for sightseeing/leisure activities

Accountability
The designated co-ordinators from the participating schools are required to provide a proposal for expenditure ahead of the first full year of joint project activity, and a statement of expenses at the end of it. Funding for the second year of project work will not be released without prior receipt of the first reconciliation.
