"Altogether a very stimulating, positive and memorable experience... I am confident that it will result in highly beneficial outcomes in the classrooms of all the colleagues who accompanied me".
Group Leader of LA visit to Canada (Raising Standards in Inner City and Rural areas)
What is a study visit?
A group of teachers and an LA officer form a team to examine a chosen theme. They review their own practice and identify shared objectives for the visit. Teachers gain professional motivation and experience, and schools gain a new network of contacts within the LA and overseas.
What do study visits involve?
LAs may have more than one group participating, involving colleagues from primary, secondary and special schools.
A minimum of two teachers per school should participate. This increases benefit to the school and mitigates against the loss of knowledge in case of staff turnover.
We will work with groups of teachers from all phases and with groups of any size according to the LA's entitlement to places. However, we would have a general preference for groups of between 10 and 20. Groups may not choose their destination.
We provide a sample visit framework for reference. This gives an idea of the range of activities offered to groups. It may be tailored by overseas hosts according to the theme of the visit and the capacity of local schools.
5 Day Placement (MS Word)
Visits usually last five working days. Travel days will be in addition to this.
