British Council Singapore are recruiting for a motivated and qualified Teacher Trainer to join our professional team with the Teacher Development Centre starting in August 2012. You need to have a university degree, a Diploma-level teaching or training qualification and have more than 4 years of relevant work experience.
This post is contracted for 2 years.
The Teacher Development Centre (TDC) was established in 1968 to engage with teachers and key stakeholders in the public and private education sectors in Singapore. Director Professional and Teacher Development, based in the Toa Payoh centre, has overall responsibility for the unit.
The external context is quite different to other East Asia countries as the public sector (primary, secondary and junior college teachers) is mainly ESL not EFL. The BC role is therefore to support Ministry of Education teacher education initiatives rather than set the agenda.
We work with public and private sector teachers via contracts as well as public courses. Although we run up to 6 CELTA courses a year, being a CELTA trainer is not a pre-requisite for this post. The post holder will have extensive experience of working with primary children and training primary teachers (in the UK or an international environment, for example). There will be opportunity over the two years to gain experience in training teachers for early years, secondary and adults.
For internal candidates: please also include your most recent completed end-of-year-record (2011/2012) and copy in both your line and centre managers when submitting your application.
Please note that interviews will be on 6 and 7 June 2012.
