SKILLS FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS
Skills for Social Entrepreneurs is a large-scale project initiated by the British Council in 2009. We are focusing our work in the following countries: Korea, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, Croatia, Georgia, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine.
The purpose of the project is to equip community leaders, young people and potential or existing social entrepreneurs with skills to adopt business approaches to meet social needs and strengthen local communities.
The project aims to build capacity for people who are working to make a difference in their communities. They in turn will be able to set up businesses, or apply business practices in their organisations leading to new employment opportunities, more wealth and better social services in their community. They will link up with existing networks of social entrepreneurs in the UK and around the world for peer support, mentoring and funding opportunities.
In Korea, we work with Diageo Korea to identify social-minded young people with innovative business ideas and support them to become successful social entrepreneurs. We are also delivering public lectures on social entrepreneurship by high profile UK experts to raise public awareness on the positive change social entrepreneurs can make in our community.
