The British Council in Scotland identifies and acts upon opportunities for Scottish expertise in the arts and creative industries to contribute to the British Council’s cultural relations mission.
Working with our international colleagues and partners, our role is to identify appropriate artists and work. We engage with a wide variety of artists who are generally invited to participate in our projects. Who we choose to work with is based primarily on the identification of need and opportunity overseas - for example, work which meets our cultural relations brief and is tailored to the intended audience.
We run a small number of formal schemes offering support and funding for artists such as Connections through Culture.Do you have a list of ‘approved artists’?
No. We are always looking out for new creative talent and exciting fresh work. We keep up-to-date with new developments across all art forms and showcase the best of Scotland’s contemporary artists to international professionals.

Scotland + Venice is a partnership between Creative Scotland, British Council Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland.
The partners are delighted to confirm that Scotland will be participating at the 55th International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale in 2013. The project is a major opportunity for Scotland to build its international profile and reputation as a centre of excellence for the visual arts. For the artist/s selected Venice is a significant platform for the development and presentation of new work.
The partners are seeking notes of interest from experienced curators and/or visual arts organisations to work with them in delivering an ambitious and imaginative exhibition that will run from June to November 2013. For further information, please refer to the particulars.
A shortlist will be drawn up from the notes of interest and we will invite people to interview in early May.
All notes of interest should be emailed by 5pm on 27 April 2012 to:
