You baby's voice will be heard on the Trafalgar Square in London!

A music experiment with participation of thousands of Russian babies that will result in a music performance by UK and Russian musicians at Trafalgar Square in July 2012

British Council Russia and Matthew Herbert are announcing the call for recordings of sounds by Russian babies up to 1 year old to contribute to a music experiment that will result in a performance by UK and Russian musicians at Trafalgar Square in July 2012.

Matthew Herbert, a well-known British electronic musician and DJ is working with British Council and Russian musicians on developing a performance that will present Russia at the Cultural Olympiad in London this year. Famous for the use of so-called 'real', 'ordinary' or 'found' sounds in modern electronic music, Matthew has come up with an idea to involve new generation of Russians through composing a piece of instrumental music in which he will incorporate a mix of Russian babies’ sounds.

We are addressing parents who would like their baby to participate in this fantastic experiment and let Londoners hear their voice. We are looking for any sounds (eating, sleeping, mumbling, etc) of maximum 30 seconds by babies from all across Russia who is up to 1 year old. If you would like to participate, please, use any of these channels to send us the recording:

Please, note that by sending the recording, you agree that the British Council and Matthew Herbert may collect and process your recording both now and in the future for the purposes of creating a music performance specified above. The processing may involve the local and overseas transfer of your recording to subjects cooperating with the British Council within the framework of the specified project.

For more information, please, contact Evgenia Gerasimova at evgenia.gerasimova@britishcouncil.ru +7 495 287 1828.

The website of the project is www.babiesmusic.ru.

This initiative is a preparatory part of work being developed by the British Council that will result in a performance during BT River of Music, a spectacular weekend of free music on 21 and 22 July 2012. Taking place at iconic sites along the River Thames, BT River of Music will welcome the world to London, with music from across all 205 Olympic and Paralympic nations. It is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival. BT River of Music is produced by Serious, and supported by the Olympic Lottery Distributor and Arts Council England.
