What is the Euro-Africa Youth Summit?

The Euro-Africa Youth Summit will select and bring together 60 young social entrepreneurs, community activists and volunteers from Africa and Europe for a five-day summit which will:

• Improve participants’ knowledge, insight, and exposure to key economic, political, and social issues in and between Africa and Europe and feature top thinkers and social entrepreneurs from both continents
• Improve participants’ ability to design and deliver projects by giving them the concrete tools and skills they need to amplify their work including project management, fundraising, working with the media, and advocacy
• Connect young European and African activists and serve as a platform to exchange knowledge, ideas and best practices of what works most effectively at the grass roots.

Portugal's Global Changemaker

Inês Murteira, a young social activist who works with young people in schools, prisons, hospitals and NGOs in the Lisbon area, was selected as the Portuguese representative to the Euro-Africa Youth Summit.

The event will bring together 60 young social entrepreneurs and activists and volunteers from Africa and Europe in a five-day meeting with the objectives of: exchanging experiences and knowledge about the key social, economic and political issues in both continents; through training sessions, improving the capacity of participants to develop and manage their social projects; bringing together European and African youth activists in a discussion platform for exchanging ideas and best practices. WHAT is Global Changemakers?

Global Changemakers is a British Council funded global youth network of social entrepreneurs and community activists from 121 countries worldwide. Its mission is to empower youth to catalyse positive social change, something which it achieves through:

1. Learning & Teaching: Global and regional summits, community and personal capacity building supported by free online curriculum
2. Doing: Individual and group projects address key global issues and facilitate joint working and create shared values: 174 projects in 75 countries supported to date
3. Advocacy: the Global Changemakers community is represented at high-level events and disseminates best practices in youth-led development.

There are currently over 700 Changemakers, more than 200,000 young people involved in Global Changemakers activities each year, and 3.2 million beneficiaries of GCM projects. Check out www.global-changemakers.net for more info on the programme.

HOW do I apply?

Between 30 January and 19 February, go to www.global-changemakers.net. You’ll see full instructions on the site. The application consists of a written form and a 2 minute YouTube video which should address your track record in your community and how you plan to contribute to the wider network if selected.

WHAT is the format and timing for the event? WHO pays?

The event will take place in June in Brussels and will consist of five full days of training, workshops and capacity building with parliamentarians, experts and facilitators, as well as visits to organizations in Brussels. Global Changemakers will cover costs for airfare, accommodation, and meals for all participants.
