Additional Entry Requirements for Art and Design

Q
What are the additional entry requirements for higher education courses in Art and Design?

A
As well as the usual general requirements, institutions that offer Art and Design courses prefer or sometimes demand that those applying for the first year have completed a Foundation year in Art and Design.

You will find information on these courses on the UCAS student site index by choosing 'Art foundation courses'. Application for courses found via this method should be made directly to the institutions.

Find out what courses there are and how to apply by consulting our page on Access courses.

When consulting the UCAS page in 'Course Search' it is possible that you will find higher education courses that are structured to include a Foundation year (1+3). In this case, the application is processed by UCAS. Find out more on our page ' How to apply' page, in 'How to apply for full-time courses, including Foundation Degrees and sandwich courses'.

The Foundation year not only allows you to identify more clearly your speciality in the arts but also gives you the opportunity to put together a good portfolio, which will be assessed when applying for the 1st year of an arts degree.
