The British Council in partnership with the Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA) brings Hip Hop Shakespeare to Manila for a series of workshops and performances from 3-6 July.
Founded in 2008 by MOBO award-winning hip hop artist Akala, The Hip-hop Shakespeare Company (‘THSC’) is a music theatre production company aimed at exploring the social, cultural and linguistic parallels between the works of William Shakespeare and that of modern day rappers.
The I am a Changemaker competition of 2011 was a testament to the creativity and innovation of the young people who have exerted every effort in making their communities a better place.
British Council Philippines commissioned UK educated filmmaker Moshe Ladanga to document 2 of the teams from Changemaker, 5 months after winning the competition.
Starting 01 July 2012, there will be a 4% increase in the IELTS test fee.
The new test fee will be Php 8,986.00.
This is the first price increase in 5 years in our test centre. The price increase is necessary towards the continuous delivery of the highest quality service to IELTS candidates. It will provide more value added benefits that can help test takers in reaching their desired band scores.
Eleven young Filipino athletes will get a chance to attend the London 2012 Olympics.
The athletes were selected among the gold medal winners at the 2011 Batang Pinoy (Filipino Kids) national sports championships. They will enjoy the fruits of their efforts as they get the chance to personally attend the 2012 London Olympics alongside a two-week English and Sports summer programme at St. Bede’s International School through a scholarship grant provided by British Council Philippines in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the MVP Sports Foundation.
There are several changes to Student visas (Tier 4) and Post study work visas (part of Tier 1).
From 6 April 2012, if you want to work in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland after you complete your studies, you may be eligible to apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa. The UK’s post-study work visa scheme (part of Tier 1), is closed to new applicants.
Tier 2 will be open to recent graduates with a Bachelor or Master’s degree, PhD, PGCE or PGDE from a UK recognised or listed body. You can only apply if you have an offer of a skilled job from an employer who is a licensed sponsor with UKBA. The job must also meet certain salary criteria.

From 1 April 2012, the British Council ceased to be the administrator of the Chevening Scholarships programme and will no longer be able to deal with Chevening enquiries.
The FCO and the Association Commonwealth Universities (ACU) have set up an email contact point for the management of 2013/14 Chevening application process.

In the following months, the British Embassy and the British Council will spearhead events and initiatives in the Philippines to drum up the Olympic event.
