What is GCE?
The General Certificate of Education (GCE) is one of the most internationally recognised qualifications as secondary level. GCE examinations are set by the University of Cambridge International Examinations.
You can take this qualification at the Advanced Subsidiary (AS)level or Advanced (A) levels, depending on what you need it for and the course you intend to follow. We advise you to take a preparation course that specifically follows a syllabus if you want to take either of these exams.
What is a GCE AS-level?
The Advanced Subsidiary is offered in most subjects and became available for the first time in 2001. The Subsidiary is a new way of facilitating staged assessment. The subject content of the new A Level syllabuses has been subdivided into two parts: the AS syllabus content, which is expected to be covered in the first half of the course, and the second part of the syllabus, commonly referred to as A2, taken at the end of the second year of study. In terms of the UCAS tariff, the Advanced Subsidiary is worth half the points of a GCE Advanced level qualification. There are certain subjects that are only available at AS-level and can be taken as free-standing qualification.
What is a GCE A-level?
An A-level is an Advanced level GCE qualification. This examination is normally taken after two years of A-level study, after you have taken your second level exam(s). You can take any number of A-levels; this will often depend on the qualifications that your chosen institution demands.
Why should I take AS and A-level?
Good A-level results can give you access to undergraduate studies at some of the best higher education learning institutions in the world. A-level qualifications can also give you access to professional and vocational courses. AS levels are accepted in all UK universities as half of the A-levels. When can I take AS and A-level?
You can take an AS or A-level if you have completed your secondary education. Three subjects at A-level and one General Paper at AS-level is eqiuivalent to the Intermediate level in Nepal. A-level examinations are normally taken by the student at the age of 18 but can be taken at any age.
Where can I study GCE in Nepal?
It would be best to prepare through one of these institutions. Each school and college varies in the number and type of subjects they offer and duration of the AS and A-level courses.
How do I prepare?
We are a recognised centre for GCE exams in Nepal, and we can provide you with copies of past papers. Syllabus for appropriate examination can be downloaded from CIE website.
When does registration take place?
Registration for May/June and October/November takes place in January/February and July/August respectively.
When does the Exam take place?
The examinations are held twice a year. One in May/June and another in October/November.
GCE candidates found in possession of a mobile phone during the examination will be disqualified from the syllabus. This applies whether the phone is switched on or off.
When are results issued?
The results are issued in August and January for May/June and October November session respectively. The results are sent in the form of Statement of Results. The certificates for successful candidates are normally sent about six weeks after the issue of results.
