What is Learning Centre?

Learning Centre is a self access resource centre where we have variety of resources for learners and teachers of English, students preparing for IELTS examination and for people who want to develop their personal and professional skills. The resources available in the Learning Centre are the form of online resources, books and CD ROMs.

Who can become a member?

Students preparing for IELTS exam, learners and teachers of English and British Council project members can become a member of the Learning Centre.

What is available in the Learning Centre?

Learning Centre provides varieties of online and printed resources for English language learning and teaching, IELTS preparation and CDs for personal and professional development.

What is the membership requirement?

You need to bring your identification card, filled in membership application form and pay the desired membership fee.

What are the different categories of membership and their prices?

Currently there are five categories of membership in the Learning Centre which are outlined below:

IELTS Normal Membership

-Specialized printed resources for IELTS exam preparation.

-Online resources for guidance and preparation.

-Free access to conversation club and book club

-Peaceful study space.

Price of the membership: Rs.500

Duration of Membership: 3 months

English Language Learners’ membership

-Specialized printed resources to work in your English.

-Different computer based exercises (CD-ROMs) to work in your vocabulary, grammar, reading, pronunciation, listening and writing skills.

-Online resources to enhance you English learning process.

Price of the membership: Rs.500

Duration of Membership: 3 months

English Language Teachers’ membership

-Specialized printed resources on teaching English

-Specialized websites for Teachers development

-Online resources to enhance you English learning process.

Price of the membership: Rs.500

Duration of Membership: 6 months

English Language Teaching Package (ELT Package)

-10 hours workshops on specific area of English Language Teaching.

- Access to Resource books for English Teachers which can be used in the classroom.

-Access to more than 100 websites related to English Language Teaching.

-Access to other useful web-site list.

Price of the Package: Rs.2000

Duration of Membership: 6 Months.

Personal and Professional Development Package (PPD Package)

-10 hours intensive training/workshops on different aspects of personal and professional development skills delivered by British Council Teachers.

-Access to talking and printed books to work on your personal and professional development (eg. Facing interviews, CV writing, Presentation Skills, Project management skills etc.)

-Access to more than 50 websites related to personal and professional development.

-Access to other useful web-site list.

Price of the Package: Rs.3000

Duration of Membership: 6 Months

If I want to borrow books or listening materials, can I take it home?

You are not allowed to borrow or take home any of the materials of the Learning Centre.

Learning Centre resources are for references only and we don’t have lending system.

What shall I do if I want guidance on the available materials?

Learning Centre staffs will be there to support your learning needs and requirements.

If I loose my membership card, what shall I do?

If you loose your membership card then you should immediately inform one of the Learning Centre staff. You are required to submit a filled up application form and clarify the LC staff about when and how you lost your card.

Can I check my personal mails from the Learning Centre computers?

No. You are only allowed to view websites which are directly or indirectly related to English language learning and teaching and those which are kept in the desktop of LC computers and laptops under the heading ‘useful websites’.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my membership?

No, you will not get any refund once you have taken the membership and paid the fees.

Can I have access to the online resources from my home?

You can have access to the useful websites from home but not other resources.

What is the opening hour of the Learning Centre?

Learning Centre is open from 9 A.M to 5 P.M, Tuesday to Saturday.

Can I use the Learning Centre for the whole day?

Each member is allowed to use the listening materials for up to maximum of 2 hours a day and use the Learning Centre resources up to 4 hours maximum in a day.

Can I write on the books?

No. Members are strictly not allowed to write on the books.

Am I allowed to take bags, books, helmet or other materials inside the Learning Centre?

No. You need to keep your belongings in the guard room. Only stationeries and exercise copies are allowed inside the Learning Centre.

What if I have a mobile phone?

You are allowed to take your mobile phone inside the Learning Centre but you should make sure that it is switched off or kept in a silent mode when you are in. Members are strictly not allowed to talk through their mobile phone inside the Learning Centre.

Can I do photocopy or print the materials?

• Members need to buy photocopy and printing services package for a charge of NRS.300 which is transferable for use by other Learning Centre Members by package owner’s authority and is valid up to the membership validity date.
• Photocopy charge is NRS. 2 per page and computer print out charge is NRS. 5 per page.
• Members are allowed to photocopy maximum 10 pages from any IELTS book or maximum
• 20 pages from any other books. Members are allowed to photocopy maximum 20 pages a day.

Are there any other events in the Learning Centre?

Regular conversation club activities and book/readers club activities are held at regular intervals as a part of Learning Centre activities. Interested members need to register themselves at LC help desk at least a week before the start of the events. Participation on these events is FREE for LC members.
