General EnglishCambridge English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) are the world's leading range of certificates for learners of English. Each year, they are taken by over two million people, in 135 countries and are widely recognised for work and study purposes.
Cambridge ESOL is part of the world-famous University of Cambridge. Its English language exams are linked to the Common European Framework, published by the Council of Europe and are available at five levels of English proficiency (A2 – C2 in the CEF).
Furthermore, Cambridge ESOL provides a Special Arrangements service, for example for candidates with learning difficulties, hearing difficulties or visual difficulties.
The Cambridge ESOL Main Suite exams are designed for learners at all levels from the very advanced Certificate of Proficiency in English to the elementary level Key English Test.
The Key English Test (KET) is the first level of Cambridge ESOL exams. It offers a basic qualification in English and also represents a first step for those progressing toward PET.
The Preliminary English Test (PET) is the second level of Cambridge ESOL exam. It is an intermediate level exam, sufficient to function effectively in everyday situations.
Continuing with the learning process, the First Certificate in English (FCE) is the third level of the Cambridge exams. It is an upper intermediate level exam which is widely recognised in commerce and industry and by education institutions in Britain.
The Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) is an advanced exam recognised by the majority of British universities for English language entrance requirements.
The Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) is a very advanced level exam which is recognised as fulfilling entrance requirements in English language by British universities and many universities in other English-speaking countries.
