Registration details and exams dates

To register, you need to download the IELTS application form. Print this off and complete in blue or black ink.

You can now also register online for an IELTS test and get a free 30 hour IELTS preparation online course.

How and where do I register?

You may register online and come in person to British Council office to pay the test fee (80 RO) and confirm your registration.

To register, you need to submit the following documents in person, at our centre in Muscat, along with your application form:

  • Two passport size photographs - not older than 6 months, with plain blue background and no glasses.
  • Copy of Passport or National Id card ( Valid during registration and on test day)

Please note: Only the ID document whose copy is attached to the application form will be  accepted on the test day.

Register for IELTS at our British Council office, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos. Opening hours for registration: Saturday to Wednesday, 0800 to 1800.

Step by Step Guide to register for IELTS

When can I take the test?
The Listening, Reading and Writing test starts at 09:00 a.m on the test day. Speaking test could be scheduled on the same day or up to 7 days before or after the test date. You will be advised of the exam venue and timing when you register.

How much will the test cost?
The test fee is 80 RO.
How can I prepare for the test?

We can help you prepare for your test with the following IELTS preparation books available to purchase from our Exams registration counter at British Council, Madinat Qaboos.

  • Official IELTS practice materials - this has practice papers and also includes a CD-ROM for Listening and speaking tests. It costs 14 RO.
  • Top Tips for IELTS (Separate books for Academic and General training modules) - this includes tips for how to revise for IELTS and an interactive CD- ROM with full practice test and speaking test video. This book costs 8 RO.
  • Action Plan for IELTS (Separate books for Academic and General Training modules) - It is a short, self- study guide for IELTS, containing one complete practice test and an Audio CD.This book costs 6 RO.

You can also join one of our preparation courses to help you achieve the best possible results.

What help is available for Special Needs candidates?
We have special arrangements for physically disabled candidates like lifts/ramp for wheelchair/special toilets at all our venues.
If you require a modified test version of the test you must give the test centre three months’ notice. This notice period is necessary for the modified test version to be prepared.
If your circumstances require special administrative arrangements to be made you must give the test centre six weeks’ notice.
Can I cancel or change my test date?

If you wish to cancel or change the date of your test, you must let us know at least five weeks before the test date, otherwise you will lose the whole fee and have to pay another test fee for the new date.

Candidates making any changes to a test date must give five weeks notice before the test date (cancellation or transfer), will be charged 20 RO.

When and how will I receive my results?

Your results will usually be available after 10:00 a.m., 13 days after the test date.

You will need to collect your results from our reception desk. You must bring your candidate number paper (from your test desk) and your national identity card/passport with you. Results cannot be given over the telephone, by fax or by e-mail.

You can also check your results online after 13 days from test date at IELTS results page. (Please note that results remain available on the site only for 28 days after the test date, and then they are deleted)

SMS updates: Now you can receive your results via our SMS service on the official result day (13 days after the test day). You need to fill in the SMS request form available on the test day at the venue if you wish to utilize this service.

How many copies can I get of my result?
You will receive only one copy of your test result. An additional five copies free of charge (within one month from the test date) can be sent directly through us to receiving organizations and institutions worldwide.
What can I do if I am unhappy with my result?
Candidates may apply for an enquiry-on-results procedure at the centre at which they took their test within four weeks of the issue of results. There is a standard fee of RO 48, which is fully refunded should the band score increased. This procedure normally takes 6-8 weeks from the date we receive the request.
Can I retake the test?
Yes, you can. You need to fill up another application form and register for the next available date or any date of your choice.
