How do we define a Creative Entrepreneur?
We define a creative entrepreneur as someone:
- Who has been working in a creative sector and is able to demonstrate business success in the classic terms of business growth (profit, market share, employees) and/or in terms of their reputation (quality and aesthetic) amongst their peers.
- Who has found new ways to take creative work to audiences and communities – e.g. new models of production, distribution, value - and highlights the wider social, economic and cultural benefits in doing so.
- Who has developed a successful (in terms of impact and reach) social or not-for-profit enterprise in the sector.
- Who has shown leadership in the industry by championing its development in India.
- Who has developed initiatives (exhibitions, trade fairs, festivals etc) that develop and grow the Indian market.
To apply for the awards you must be:
- Between 21 to 40 years
- Have at least three years of work experience in the relevant sector (as defined for each award).
- Display entrepreneurial skills through promotion of your creative sector in India, in either a commercial context, public context, or both.
- Demonstrate leadership potential in your sector through your character, drive and abilities.
- It is not mandatory that you be a practitioner in the chosen sector. An individual may strongly influence the business of a particular sector without being a practitioner.
- Applicants who are primarily academics are unlikely to be short-listed or successful.
How we select the YCE
- Applications were open pan India to the relevant industry till Monday 6 June. Applicants have applied by completing the application form and attaching a portfolio of selected work.
- A shortlist up to seven finalists from the pool of applicants received has been announced in June on our website. Short listing is done in collaboration with partners to ensure transparency.
- For different sectors, the final judging will take place in July. A high profile interview panel that is representative of the sector will select the India YCE for 2010/11. The shortlisted candidates will be called upon for a brief presentation to the panel of judges followed by a question and answer session. The judges will assess each candidate’s application form, their presentation and responses to questions and score them.
- The winners will be announced at the Awards Night on 20 July at British Council Delhi.
What’s in store for the winners
- •As the winner you will get the opportunity to travel to UK and attend a relevant trade event. The tour will comprise visit, meetings, seminars and events. The tour will be tailored to your interests, and will include specific meetings to introduce you to potential UK contacts of particular interest for commercial or collaborative purposes.
- British Council will also endeavour to find opportunities for the YCE network, in particular the finalists to engage with the UK and support collaborations between them.
