International Inspiration
What is it?
International Inspiration is a UK Government led international legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This is the first time in its history that there has been an official commitment to an international legacy as part of the Games.
The programme aims at transforming the lives of 12 million young children of all age groups and abilities in schools and communities in the developing nations through the power of sports.
Led by UK Sport on behalf of the Government, International Inspiration is a collaboration of international expertise in sport, development and education.
International Inspiration Reach
In the year One, the programme was piloted in five countries: Azerbaijan, Brazil, India, Palau and Zambia. In the second year 7 new countries have been added to the programme: Bangladesh, Ghana, Jordan, South Africa, Mozambique, Nigeria and Trinidad &Tobago.

Globally, the programme key delivery partners are British Council, Youth Sport Trust, UNICEF UK and UK Sport with a range of other supporting partners including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the Department for International Development (DFID), the British Olympic Association (BOA) British Olympic Foundation (BOF) and, of course, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG).

What are we trying to achieve?
International Inspiration aims to create sustainable structures and systems in 20 countries, enabling at least 12 million young people to access sport and improve their lives as a result. The British Council element sits at the heart of International Inspiration. It builds international partnerships between education and sport reformers, teachers and young people. These partnerships will enable many more young people to access physical education and sport in an improvised manner
Where are we now?
In India, International Inspiration was formally announced by UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown in January 2008. India has progressed towards the implementation of the third year of the International Inspiration Programme.
Activities Under International Inspiration in Second Year of the Programme
School Exchange Visits under Dreams and Teams School Linking Programme
As a part of the school linking activities under Dreams and Teams 25 schools from Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Punjab and West Bengal have visited their UK link schools. This was followed by a reciprocal visit of the UK schools to India. The visits have facilitated the process of partnership development plans between the Indian and UK schools by gaining an understanding of each others strengths and weaknesses.
Dreams and Teams Youth Sports Leadership Training
52 Local tutors and 224 Young leaders from 25 Dreams and Teams schools across 6 states have been imparted Youth Sport Leadreship Training (Dreams and Teams Training) by Youth Sport Trust trainers. The participants were trained in developing their leadership qualities by taking sports as a medium. The training emphasises on familiarising the local tutors and young leaders with cross cultural issues, inclusion and equity, through sports.
MHRD Secondment Programme in Delhi [April - July 2009]
A PE specialist teacher from UK was deputed to work with an Indian resource group for developing the Physical Education Cards and a PE Training manual for primary teachers in India The resource group comprised of faculty members from CBSE, Delhi University, Delhi Directorate Schools, LNUPE, UNDP, and Appejay School (Pitampura, New Delhi) for the development of, Physical Education Cards, PE teaching manual and PE training programme for primary and PE teachers.
Introduction of Physical Education Cards India [PEC India]
Physical Education in India is expanding its horizon with the piloting of Physical Education Cards in 57 schools nominated by CBSE, KVS and State Education Departments in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. The cards have received a positive response from the teachers who are willing to implement it in their teaching methodology. Apart from physical education, the cards are also linked to subjects like English, Mathemetics and Enviornmental Sceinces. Download PEC India Cards.
PEC India Piloting in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai
The PEC India programme was successfully pilotted in 57 schools, nominated by CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Delhi Directorate of Education, across 3 states and 2 districts in India. The outcomes of the pilot programme has been shared with the Government and based on the sucess stories reported through monitoring and evaluation processes, the Government will develop a strategy to broadbase and upscale the PEC India programme in all schools across India.
