Civil Society Experience

Working with media and civil society groups in the UK and Pakistan, British Council produced documentaries, drama and musical performances to raise awareness of the issue of  honour killings. We brought institutions from both inside and outside government into the discussions through policy forums and enabled them to work with community groups, police and the judiciary to develop partnerships and more effective co-operation and policy support leading to improved legislation. Honour killings are an issue for many countries all over the world and an international conference in Pakistan enabled participants from the UK; Jordan, India, Turkey and many other countries to share their approaches and establish networks.
