This is a unique opportunity to spend the summer of 2012 teaching and experiencing life in Asia’s greatest city. Hong Kong is the place where the Far East meets the West and a thriving centre of international finance, trade and travel. There are endless skyscapers, busy streets and crowded public transport but the territory also has verdant green mountains with hiking trails, white sandy beaches and sleepy fishing villages.
The teaching centre is one of the busiest and most dynamic in the British Council network. We are looking for enthusiastic, qualified EFL teachers with experience of teaching Young Learners. We offer generous packages for our July and August summer programmes.
Our summer programme
Programme type
There are two separate summer programmes. Most July courses are for Kindergarten or Primary students and are art and creativity based. There are a small number of Secondary-level skills courses, and some evening adult General English classes. August courses are topic and task based, with a larger number of secondary courses and an adult programme.
Your timetable may therefore include a mix YLs and Adults, but we always endeavour to match classes with your areas of experience and expertise.
Our students
Most of our Young Learners attend local schools here in Hong Kong. Kindergarten students are aged 3-6, Primary are 6-11 and Secondary are 11-18. Adult students are typically young working people.
Here is a video about our summer programmes last year:
Working hours
During the summer school period you will be timetabled anywhere between 12 and 24 hours per week according to operational needs. All Young Learner classes take place between 8.30am and 6.00pm and Adult classes are scheduled in the evenings.
Our centres
Most classes are held at our flagship teaching centre in Admiralty on Hong Kong Island. We also run courses at our branch centres in local schools across the harbour in Kowloon and the New Territories.
