The launch of the Hong Kong components of Swanning Around will be the first time that the Education and Outreach Departments from three major dance companies: City Contemporary Dance Company, the Hong Kong Ballet Company and the Hong Kong Dance Company, have worked with the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity. Ms Ronly Kong from City Contemporary Dance Company will take up the role of local Dance Artist for the group dance and Mr Carlo Pacis from the Hong Kong Ballet will take up the role of Rehearsal Director for the unison dance. The production will be brought together by the Swanning Around Artistic Director and Choreographer from the English National Ballet.
The young people who take part in this project will have an opportunity to work with a professional Dance Artist from the English National Ballet to develop a piece of original choreography inspired by Swan Lake.
This project will be mirrored with the same process happening in five schools or groups based in the UK. The UK schools will form an online partnership with the Hong Kong participants so that they can share their responses to the dance brief and discover more about the lives and communities of their opposite numbers via the WebPlay online platform. This essential part of the Swanning Around project will enable the students to greatly improve their English in a lively and interactive way.
Project Results
For the final performance at the Royal Albert Hall, the selected Hong Kong students will fly to the UK and join with the UK student dancers to participate in the finale unison section of the UK version of Swanning Around. Similarly, they will take a group from the UK to perform in the finale unison section in Shanghai at the World Expo 2010 on the UK National Day of 8 September 2010.
