The British Council is supporting the first sustainable fashion design competition in Hong Kong – EcoChic Design Award. The competition aims at promoting the concept of Eco-fashion through up-cycling, recycling, reconstruction and zero-waste techniques within fashion industry.
'Behind the Seams' of British Sustainable Fashion
Date: Wednesday 16 November 2011In partnership with the British Council, Hong Kong charity Redress, organisers of the recent EcoChic Design Award Hong Kong 2011 sustainable fashion design competition, is proud to present a 'behind the seams' exploration into groundbreaking sustainable fashion techniques and trends hitting London’s shops and catwalks. This lively information sharing session will be hosted by Janko Lam, the EcoChic Design Award Hong Kong 2011 Winner, and Cherry Wong, the co-founder of the EcoChic Design Award.
This interactive discussion includes a preview of the UK’s hottest Spring/Summer 2012 sustainable fashion garments from designers exhibiting at London Fashion Week’s ‘Estethica’; a visual presentation of the latest UK sustainable fashion trends; and an introduction to London’s pioneering sustainable fashion educational centres.
Bringing this back ‘home’ to Hong Kong, EcoChic Design Award Hong Kong 2011 Winner Janko Lam will share her vision for sustainable fashion design in Hong Kong.
To complement the discussion, there will be an exhibition of the EcoChic Design Award Hong Kong 2011 Grand Finalists' designs.

Queen of up-cycling UK designer Orsola de Castro will be one of the panel judges of the competition. As one of the owners of From Somewhere, Orsola will also share with the audience her successful collaborations with Tesco and Speedo at the Redress Forum.
