About Antony Gormley

Born in London, Antony Gormley graduated from Cambridge, Central School of Art and Goldsmiths. His work is exhibited and collected in all the major museums in the world. He works with a variety of materials, but the majority of his work is concerned with the body. In 1994 he was awarded the Turner Prize for Field for the British Isles, and his public sculpture Angel of the North has been the landmark of Gateshead since 1998.

Some of his most notable works include Field (American) (1991), Amazonian Field (1992), European Field (1993), Asian Field (2003), Sound II (1986), Iron: Man (1993), Havmann (1994), Another Place (1997), Angel of the North (1995/1998), Quantum Cloud (2000), Filter (2002), Event Horizon (2007) and One & Other (2009).

Gormley was made an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1997 for his services in sculpture. He has held honorary fellowships at the Royal Institute of British Architects, Trinity College and Jesus College of Cambridge. He is also a trustee of British Museum and a Royal Academician.
