BEAUTIFUL SCIENCE

Our Beautiful Science project takes a unique approach to the challenge of improving science communication.

We are joining teams from eight other countries in South East Europe (SEE) and the UK to bring you an innovative science communication project between 2006 and 2008. Beautiful Science has been developed through the combined efforts of colleagues in Azerbaijan, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, and our Science, Engineering and Technology team in the UK.

Beautiful Science will focus on two closely-related areas of activity – helping young scientists to develop the skills needed to communicate their work to a wide, non-professional audience, and demonstrating good practice in embedding science in popular culture through public events.

Beautiful Science events include:

FameLab Competition 2008 Final
Reserve your seat at the FameLab 2008 Final, a unique science communication competition. The finalists will have just five minutes each to present a science topic in an innovative and engaging way and impress the judges with their knowledge of science, clarity and charisma.

FameLab Competition 2008
Are you 18 or over? Can you make a three-minute presentation on a scientific topic in front of a live audience and a panel of judges? If so, why not enter our FameLab Competition 2008? You could win a trip to the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK!
Deadline for submission of applications: 31 March 2008
Qualifying Rounds: Athens 7 April 2008 & Thessaloniki 9 April 2008.
Final Round: Athens 5 May 2008
   
Science Debates – Genetically Modified Food: Benefit or Threat?
Join us in a public debate on the relative merits of mass-producing food using pesticides, genetically modified food and organic farming.

Visualise – The Beauty of Science
Visualise is an innovative touring science and theatre show that allows audiences to experience the visual beauty of some of the world's most emotive science demonstrations. Interactive workshops will follow.

FameLab Competition 2007
The final round took place on Monday 2 April 2007, when the ten finalists were asked to give a five-minute presentation on a science topic of their choice.The winner was selected by both the jury and the audience. Find out more ...
