We are delighted to support The Bed by Angela Praed, an exciting all-night dance marathon organised by the Isadora & Raymond Duncan Dance Research Center.
Set on a double bed, The Bed is a large body of work that draws on a variety of disciplines and deals with themes of intimacy, private spaces, memory and the body.
The audience brings sleeping bags and pillows and camps around the bed during the performance that starts at night and finishes in the morning. The event begins very much as performance but as the night progresses participatory relationships are inevitable and culmination comes with a communal breakfast. It is like a journey through the night; it begins as an observation by the audience but then there is more focus on the audience being part of the piece.
'A peculiar but quite wonderful experience.'

Within the framework of the British dance company's residence in Athens, Rosalyn Maynard, Angela Praed's collaborator, will run a four-day workshop. The workshop is aimed at dancers, choreographers, actors, drama and dance school students. It is directly related to the performance, and is an exploration of the ideas that Angela Praed uses implicitly to create her work.
Angela Praed graduated from the Laban Centre with a degree in Dance Theatre and went on to study for a PGCE in Movement and Special Needs. She worked as freelance dancer and teacher. She met Wayne Mc Gregor and helped establish the Random Dance Company. In 1995 she moved to Cornwall, where she set up her own dance company.
Rosalyn Maynard is a UK-based independent dance artist and has been a key performer in Angela Praed's work for over ten years. She is an experienced practitioner and performer working in a variety of contexts and has worked as an associate lecturer at University College Falmouth since 2003.
WORKSHOPDeadline for registration: 30 December 2009.
