BETWEEN TWO WORLDS: THE BRITISH COUNCIL AND ANGLO-GREEK LITERARY INTERACTION, 1945-1955

We are delighted to invite you to a conference exploring our contribution to Anglo-Greek literary interaction during the period 1945 to 1955, which we are organising in collaboration with the British School at Athens this January.

The conference aims to assess the contribution of the British Council to the development and promotion of Greek literature during the above period and lead to a greater appreciation of Greek culture among Britons, as well as British culture and English literature among Greeks.

The conference also aims to investigate the cultural, political and ideological background to these activities. Papers will be given by academic researchers from Britain, Greece and the USA. In addition, a number of people who were connected with the British Council’s activities at the time will talk about their experiences.
