Our Areas of Work

Public Sector Management

Typically we are concerned with the development of capacity of government at central, regional or local levels and public sector organisations to operate effectively and to deliver better services to citizens.  Many of our projects specifically include a training component.

OPEN CITIES PROJECT

Open Cities is a research and learning programme that measures the competitive advantage of cultural diversity in cities. Over the last three years, the British Council has been working with URBACT and municipal governments in Europe and internationally to understand the factors that help to make cities open to new populations. Initial research in ten pilot cities in Europe led to the development of an Openess Index, which is now being used by municipal governments worldwide for strategic planning and policy design. In Europe, the British Council is also supporting cities interested in forging relationships with minority ethnic communities in their cities and in ensuring that new populations are more effectively engaged in the policy making process. Further information about Open Cities is available on our website.
