Stewart Laing leads workshop for Young Georgian Directors and Designers

On 11-12 December 2010, a workshop for 20 young Georgian theatre directors and designers was held as part of a Theatre Partnership Project between the Rustaveli and the UK’s famous National Theatre. The partnership has been managed by the British Council and supported by BP.  Stewart Laing is a director and Tony Award-winning set designer. He is the director and set designer of An Argument About Sex, which ran at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre during the summer 2010.

Fund-raising Consultancy Visit

Martin Prendergast from the National Theatre visited the Rustaveli Theatre to carry out fund-raising consultancy meetings with the theatre management team.

The aim of the Theatre Partnership Project is to help develop capacity in the theatre sector in Georgia by working with emerging directors, promoting new writing and engaging audiences in new work.

"War Correspondents" - Part of  the Theater Partnerhip Project

On 26-31 January  2011, Helen Chadwick, director, and Miriam Nabarro, a set designer, were on a research trip in Tbilisi. The visit was part of the partnership project between the Rustaveli and the National Theatre, which has been facilitated by the British Council and supported by BP.

The UK artists are developing a really interesting project, the show i.e. theatre with music based on the testimonies of journalists and war correspondents, looking especially at the difficulties and commitment of journalists in covering conflicts. Helen Chadwick and Miriam Nabarro are planning to meet Georgian journalists and photographers and conduct interviews with them.  The involvement of Georgian actors is planned
