School Links Case Study

English and French schools work together on a joint education project

School teachers from French and English Schools in the Poitiers and Swindon areas have been working together to devise joint education projects under the “ Anglo-French Education Agreement” pdf icon

Which schools have linked up?
8 French schools from the Vienne department in the Académie of Poitiers took part in a partner finding seminar from 11 to 14 February 2007 in Poitiers, and have linked up with partner schools from the Swindon region in England as follows :

St. Andrews school and l’Ecole de l’Ermitage, Saint Benoît
Liden School and Ecole Evariste Galois, Poitiers
Westlea Schooland Ecole Marcel Pagnol, Poitiers
St. Mary’s School and Ecole de Dissay
St. Francis School and Ecole de Smarves
Lainsmead Primary and Ecole Jules ferry, Poitiers
Abbey Meads School and Ecole Irma Jouenne, Saint Benoît
Moredon School and Ecole Jules Ferry, Neuville

What was was on the programme ?
After the partner finding session the teachers spent a day devising joint education projects together. This was followed by a visit to the French partner schools to allow  the teachers to further develop their project ideas.

What are the joint education projects about?
The projects devised by the school teachers from both schools involved in the partnership cover a wide range of themes from sport to the environment and healthy eating. Read a résumé of the projects pdf icon .

What are the benefits for the schools and the pupils?
School partnerships based around joint education projects allow schools and their pupils to create a real, fun context to language learning. When the projects are cross-curricular the schools involved build a long-lasting relationship with their partner schools benefiting a wide range of classes and pupils.
