Study for a UK qualification in Malaysia zone
Background
At their meeting in March 2006, the Partnership Board agreed that the Transnational (TNE) offering would be formalised within the Education UK Partnership and selected Malaysia as a pilot. Detailed planning work with British Council Malaysia has started. A second pilot is under consideration for development in 2007.
As part of these developments, and following consultation with Partnership members who attended the March 2007 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, this exhibition will be the first to pilot a TNE zone. The working title for this zone is Study for a UK qualification in Malaysia.
Format
This zone will showcase UK programmes delivered in Malaysia. Local partners of UK institutions will be invited to take a stand in the zone. In order to make participation a cost effective solution for accredited Malaysian institutions, we will be offering smaller stand sizes (6 square metres) and therefore proportionally lower stand costs will apply.
This process will be managed separately from the main recruitment, i.e. local providers will apply using an application form which will be returned to British Council Malaysia. The maximum number of places available for this event will be ten and the zone will only be administered providing we receive a minimum of five applications.
All applications from local providers will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
As this is a pilot and to ensure that we allow the zone to work, formal stand sharing between a Malaysian institution and UK institution will not be allowed.
As you will appreciate, we want to encourage local providers to participate within the Study for a UK qualification in Malaysia zone, and also encourage UK institutions to get their local partners to participate. Whilst we don’t want to stop UK institutions having a local partner representative on the stand, to ensure that the zone works, we won’t be allowing local partner representatives to distribute their own promotional material. They will have the opportunity to do this should they decide to take their own stand in the zone.
Eligibility criteria
Any Malaysian institution recognised by the National Accreditation Board of Malaysia (LAN) and who offers a programme that leads to a recognised UK programme will be eligible to participate. Institutions who take a stand in the zone must agree to promote only UK programmes.
Evaluation
As this is a pilot, a full evaluation will be undertaken and further consultation will take place. If you have any comments on the TNE zone, please contact Kevin van Cauter.
if you require any more information, please contact Jade Thum, British Council Malaysia.
