Shine! The International Student Awards

A PMI2 campaign

First launched in 2002, the International Student Awards is an annual campaign which celebrates the achievements of international students studying in the UK. Over the past eight years, more than 13,000 international students studying at UK universities, colleges of further and higher education, independent schools and English language institutions have entered the competition.

The Shine! 2011 campaign has been launched for its ninth successive year.

What are the benefits to Education UK marketing?
The International Student Award scheme is an excellent way of encouraging students who have made the life-changing decision to study in the UK to record their experiences and insights and to celebrate their qualities. it also gives us access to authentic stories that can help us to promote the UK as an educational destination.

The competition for the International Student Awards in 2010 attracted students representing 118 nationalities. Each gave an inspirational account of their achievements while studying in the UK. Nearly 1,500 students entered the competition by writing an inspiring ‘letter home’, highlighting how their experiences and newly acquired skills have either enhanced their personal development, boosted their career prospects or helped them to achieve their ambitions

The competition has produced many stories about the voluntary activities and work placements that added value to their UK education. The letters also included praise for the excellent quality of the teaching in the UK, and the abundance of up-to-the-minute facilities and resources at their disposal. Many students also commented on the welcoming atmosphere in the UK, the cultural diversity and the rich social opportunities available to them.

‘The International Student Awards provide the chance for students who are making the most of their time in the UK to offer their perceptions and illuminate understanding of what they are, what they want to be, and – very important – what they think of their host country' - Lord Kinnock, Chair British Council.
