The Selector is a two-hour radio show featuring the best in new UK music for a global audience. It reflects the vitality and diversity of British music, promoting new sounds, new talents and the sheer inventiveness of musical culture in modern Britain.
First launched in 2001, The Selector has been hugely successful in the many countries in which it has broadcast, from China to Mexico. The show is currently broadcasting on over 30 stations to an estimated audience of 35 million listeners worldwide. We have also commissioned a new version for the Arabic-speaking world, to be recorded in the UK but made in partnership with radio stations in the Middle East.
The Selector features a mix of new UK music, including bands such as The Streets, Miss Dynamite, Supergrass, Badly Drawn Boy and Craig Armstrong. The show is interspersed with music from the host country, in addition to features from the local and UK music scene.
A pilot TV version of the programme has recently been made, featuring new music videos, exclusive acoustic live performances, interviews and features relating to the social context of music. Presented by Andrea Oliver, the 30-minute programme will change every month. It will be available as a finished, English language production, in kit form, with a script for translation and local presentation.
