British folk singer and songwriter Laura Marling and folk-rock band Mumford & Sons toured India during December 2009 as part of the British Council's Soundpad project. Whilst in India, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons both collaborated with like-minded Indian musicians; Laura took part in recording sessions in Delhi with folk artist Papon, whilst Mumford & Sons worked with a group of Rajasthani musicians, The Dharohar Project.
The first night of the tour in New Delhi saw all four bands play a special performance with the proceeds from the concert going to the YP Foundation - a youth led and run non-profit based in Delhi.

Laura Marling is a folk singer-songwriter from Hampshire, England. Marling has toured with a number of well-known indie artists in the UK and beyond including Adam Green and Jamie T, who invited her on tour with him in 2006 after he attended her second-ever gig. Her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim came out in 2008 to critical acclaim and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
Mumford & Sons are, by their own description, a 'folk n roll' band from London. The band is made up of Marcus Mumford (vocals, guitar, drums), Winston Marshall (vocals, banjo, dobro), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards, organ), and Ted Dwane (vocals, double bass). They formed in late 2007, rising out of London’s folk scene alongside other artists such as Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn, and Noah and the Whale. The band released their debut album Sigh No More through Island Records in the UK in October 2009.
