RESOUND is the education and community department of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and extends the reach of the orchestra beyond the confines of the concert hall.

Workshops, projects and events offer unique opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to create and perform music alongside professional musicians.

Projects take place every year with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Cardiff University providing opportunities for young composers to hear their new scores performed and recorded. An annual project with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales allows young musicians to sit alongside players from BBC NOW and gain invaluable rehearsal, recording and performance experience.

Creative music projects take place with schools and communities across Wales each year. Teachers, pupils, choirs and bands make music with players from the orchestra, culminating in performances in their own communities. BBC NOW has organised two large-scale town residences in the North Wales town of Corwen and the West Wales town of Ammanford.

BBC NOW performs for and with people throughout Wales every year. School concert tours, such as the Making Tracks Live! events for young people, present the music and instruments of the orchestra in a fresh, exciting and interactive way.

Projects which explore the application of new technologies look to connect the orchestra and its musicians with people across Wales when a busy schedule and distance prevents the players from being there in person.

In addition to the education and outreach work of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, RESOUND is extending its reach in a programme involving members of the BBC National Chorus of Wales.
