A collection of five extraordinary plays exploring and reflecting contemporary life across the Near East and North Africa.
In 2007 the Royal Court Theatre’s International Department and the British Council embarked on an ambitious project working with twenty-one writers from across the Near East North Africa region.
The British Council, in partnership with Nick Hern Books and Royal Court Theatre, has now produced Plays from the Arab World - which brings together five of the resultant plays: Withdrawal by Mohammad Al Attar from Syria; 603 by Imad Farajin from Palestine; Damage by Kamal Khalladi from Morocco; The House by Arzé Khodr from Lebanon; and Egyptian Products by Laila Soliman.
The plays tackle a wide range of thought-provoking issues such as politics, isolation, repression, feminism and family. The book also includes an absorbing foreword by Laila Hourani, the British Council’s Regional Manager Creativity for the Near East North Africa region. You can order your copy for only £14.99 at www.nickhernbooks.co.uk.
