The Academy of Medical Sciences is pleased to announce the launch of the fourth round of funding for The Daniel Turnberg Travel Fellowship Scheme, now open for applications.
The scheme provides opportunities for biomedical researchers to travel between the UK and the Middle East. It offers applicants the chance to undertake short-term visits of up to four weeks to further their research experience and learn new techniques, with the aim of establishing research links and developing ongoing scientific collaborations.
Since its launch in 2008, the scheme has awarded 66 Travel Fellowships, to researchers from all countries eligible to apply. As part of this fourth round of funding, applications are sought from clinical or non-clinical researchers whose research falls within the broad scope of medical or bioscience research. As part of the fourth round of funding, two additional Travel Fellowship Awards are available to applicants working within the field of surgical research.
Researchers from the following countries are eligible to apply:
Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian Territory and the UK.
Fellowships are available to early or mid-career medical or bioscience researchers from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territory, to spend time in laboratories or hospitals in the UK. Fellowships are also available to researchers based in the UK, to visit laboratories or hospitals in the Middle East (within those countries listed above). The scheme offers up to £3,500 per award to cover travel expenses and provide a subsistence allowance for a period of up to four weeks.
Applications should be made through the candidate’s Heads of Department who will act as sponsor for the applicant. The applicant should contact and obtain written support from the institution that they wish to visit prior to submitting their application. Further details of the scheme and how to apply can be found on the Academy’s website. www.acmedsci.ac.uk/turnberg
The deadline for receipt of completed application forms is Friday 27 January 2012.
