The first step for students wishing to progress towards the higher levels. KET is an early learning objective, which enables people to acquire a general basic ability in English. It can be achieved after approximately 180-200 hours of study.
Candidates receive a standardised score for the whole exam on a fixed scale out of 100. There are fixed values for each KET grade:
Pass with Merit = 85-100
Pass = 70-84
Council of Europe level A1 = 45-69
Fail = 0-44
The minimum score you need to achieve a passing grade is 70. Candidates with score 45-69 are issued with A1 level certificates.
