Who we are
The British Council in Cyprus
The British Council has begun work in Cyprus since 1934 but officially received its Royal Charter in 1940. We have two offices in Nicosia and offer a wide range of services and activities to both communities.
We work in partnership with Cypriot organisations and individuals in the development of Cyprus in education, English language, governance, human rights, environment and technology.
The British Council worldwide
The British Council is UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. As well as education, we run programmes in the arts, science, sport, governance and English language.
We build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide. We achieve our purpose through the work we do in three areas:
In the UK the British Council is registered as a charity (not-for-profit-organisation) and operates as an executive non-departmental public body. We receive a grant from the British Government and are represented in 109 countries worldwide.
Our patron is Her Majesty The Queen and our Vice-Patron is His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales.
The United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
