FAQs

I AM BRITISH / A FOREIGNER AND I WISH TO WORK IN CUBA. HOW CAN I FIND THE REQUIRED INFORMATION?
You should approach the Cuban Embassy in your country for information. Other sources of information include the several organisations which help send resources and volunteers to Cuba, such as the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in the UK. For those who have a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language, it is important to point out that the British Council does not have a Teaching Centre in Cuba.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BRITISH COUNCIL, THE BRITISH EMBASSY AND THE BRITISH CONSULATE?

The British Council is independent of the British government, and therefore of the British Embassy. The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. The British Council's purpose is to connect people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK, and to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries.

The British Embassy and British Consulate are the official representatives of the British Government and, amongst other things, they are concerned with looking after the interests of British citizens abroad and with visas and passports. The British Embassy also promotes commercial links between Cuba and the UK.
