Comenius for schools

'Our pupils were so excited about our Comenius partners coming to visit! Even the more reluctant learners were writing invitations, participating fully in language lessoms, learning phrases in Hungarian and Czech. The project itself gave the pupils a purpose to their work.'
Valley Gardens Middle School, Comenius school partnership, 'The Four Seasons'

What can you do?

School Partnerships: your school makes links with schools and colleges in other European countries to work together on collaborative projects. Partnerships include study visits to overseas partners, which can include pupils. eTwinning, part of Comenius, is an online partner-finding and collaboration space. The easy-to-use interactive tools help you set up projects and work together with your partners.
Comenius Assistants: your school hosts a future teacher from another European country, who works across the curriculum, raising awareness of their country and culture.
In-Service Training: you participate in courses, conferences or job shadowing in other European countries, and learn about different educational environments. Opportunities cover all curriculum areas, not just those with an obvious international focus.

What can you do for school leavers considering going on to university?

Erasmus: if you work with pupils nearing school leaving age, you can encourage them to take advantage of Erasmus when they go on to higher education. Erasmus is the European Union's Higher Education mobility programme and, like Comenius, is managed in the UK by the British Council. You can find ideas for promoting Erasmus to a school audience here
