ILEC is a Cambridge ESOL examination, developed in co-operation with TransLegal – Europe’s leading firm of lawyer-linguists. The exam is a high-level legal-oriented language qualification for lawyers and law students set at levels B2 to C1 of the Common European Framework
The exam is based on realistic tasks of the kind that legal practitioners would be expected to encounter in their daily working lives. Successful candidates are able to use the language in practical situations, to participate in meetings, negotiations, and discussions of a legal nature, express opinions clearly and are able to understand and produce texts such a legal correspondence and memoranda.
The examination tests the full range of communications skills needed by legal practitioners, takes approximately four hours in total and consists of four papers:
The Test of Speaking takes place separately from the other papers and is conducted face-to-face by qualified oral examiners.
