This is a two-year project, which aims to

update and improve the skills of female legal professionals, hotline consultants, legal advisors and women's federation staff in the field of safeguarding women's rights and interests
develop legal practice and expertise, legitimise women's rights and interests  
improve the overall level of legal professionals, hotline consultants, legal advisors and women's federation staff, full time and part-time

The project will end in April 2004. Three were three main branches of activity. Our partner, the All China Women's Federation is collaborating with its branch organisation, the Wuhan Women's Federation, by identifying training priorities and organising participants.

In September 2002, two professional trainers from Glasgow University Active Learning Centre delivered training on legal aid and hotline counselling in Wuhan. 50 participants from hotline counselling centres, legal aid centres and local women's federation benefited from the training. The two trainers also visited a number of organisations that protect / promote women's rights and interests in Wuhan.

Two more professional trainers from the Active Learning Centre of Glasgow University delivered a second five-day training course on Protecting Women's Rights and Interests in Wuhan in September 2003 in Wuhan. There were about 50 participants who came from a wide range of organisations. These included the local Women's Federation, Courts, Legal Aid Centres, Public Security Bureaus, local People's Congress, and the Bureau’s of Prosecution, Labour, Health and Justice respectively.

In October 2003, a delegation of seven, led by Mme Mo Wenxiu, Vice President of the All China Women' Federation visited the UK on a study tour organisations engaging in works of protection women's rights and interests in London and Edinburgh.
