Funding for Scientists

FUNDING FOR SCIENTISTS

The UK is a global player in Science with an international reputation for research and innovation. Drawing on the country’s intellectual capital and immense creativity, we at the Science Unit of the British Council are trying to reinforce UK’s positive role in the international community through both technological and educational co-operation. Every year several scholarships and bursaries are awarded to both Chinese students and professionals for a range of academic programmes.

Biomedical Research Collaboration Grants
This scheme is to promote new and existing collaboration between research groups in the UK or Republic of Ireland and groups in other countries.

Cancer Research Fellowship
Aim to support outstanding young investigators in cancer research through providing them with an opportunity to establish an independent research group.

The Ethics of Biomedical Research in Developing Countries Grant Schemes
A new research funding initiative as part of the Wellcome Trust’s Biomedical Ethics Programme, which aims to build the knowledge base by supporting research into the social, ethical, legal and public policy aspects of biomedical research in developing countries.

BACR Mid-Career Fellowship by British Association for Cancer Research
To provide funds to support travel to a laboratory and reasonable subsistence costs, to enable the applicant to perform some experimental work which might advance an on-going programme or facilitate a collaboration which may lead to new programmes of work.   

The Grants for International Activities by the Royal Society

DOROTHY HODGKIN POSTGRADUATE AWARDS
Now, more than 20 UK universities have been invited to participate in the pilot of the DHPAs scheme, and the first tranche of awards in October 2004 provided fully-funded scholarships for approximately 130 students.
