be a permanent resident of the People's Republic of China and not currently be working or studying overseas and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan at the time of application
not be in receipt of any other scholarships or award for the academic year
hold a first degree in a related subject which is recognized by UK institutions
Academic IELTS test score at least 6.5 overall with no individual band less than 6.0.
be mid-career staff (with a minimum of 3 years work experience) who has managerial, policy-influencing or decision-making responsibilities. Applicants from government, state enterprises and NGO are welcome to apply
not staff, spouses, children or parents of staff from FCO, British Council and partner organisations
not have in the past three years received a British Government funded scholarships

Possess the following 'Chevening' qualities:

2. have leadership potential
3. show a commitment to change and organisational development
4. be flexible and adaptable
5. be innovative and creative
6. have an ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances;
