Com(ic)media on Line: British Contemporary Animation Talk Series

Com(ic)media on Line: British Contemporary Animation Talk Series is jointly brought about by the Cultural and Education Section of the British Consulate-General and Shenzhen Fine Art Institute, in partnership with College of Design, Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen National Cartoon & Animation Industry Base. It is going to be held in Shenzhen on the 16th and 17th of December 2010. The works of two British Animation Artists, Adam Bailey and Peter Boyd Maclean, will be exhibited in the 7th International Ink Art Biennale of Shenzhen/Com(ic)media on Line. They will also present talks to local contemporary animation lovers and professionals from animation industry concerning the development of animation in the UK, as well as some marvelous works. Meanwhile, the Best of British Animation Awards Vol.8 will also be introduced to the public audiences.

The special themed exhibition Com(ic)media on Line of  the 7th International Ink Art Biennial of Shenzhen features an international contemporary art component which demonstrates the interconnection of our globalised world by focusing on universal themes such as humour, fun and myth. The two participating British artists, Adam Bailey and Peter Boyd Maclean manage to enrich the exhibition’s theme of lines through their animation works that, together with the other artworks, forms an interesting dialogue about reality and the comic world.

As a symbol of “modern myth”, these animated works represent regional fables or characterisations of the current era we all live in. Indeed, comics have transcended from simple depictive/descriptive graphic narration to being part of the contemporary animation art and culture. It belongs to more than the realm of aesthetics, as today they’ve taken on a new dimensions, as they are important to the construction of modern culture and how it is accepted, favored, rejected and consumed by society at large.
