Shumon Basar
Shumon Basar is a co-founder of the London based curatorial/design group Newbetter, who, since 2002, have worked on a number of international exhibitions (such as Can Buildings Curate) and collaborations with artists, film-makers and urbanists. Shumon is also co-founder of the publishing event sexymachinery, and a contributing editor at the fashion/culture quarterly Tank. With Markus Miessen, he has co-edited the anthologies Did Someone Say Participate (MIT/Revolver, 2006) and With/Without (Bidoun Publications, 2007). A columnist at Blueprint magazine, Shumon has written for Art Review, Sunday Telegraph, Domus and Modern Painters. Academic appointments include The Royal College of Art, The London Consortium and a new curatorial and cultural initiative at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in 2006. From 1996-99, Shumon worked for the architect Zaha Hadid, notably on the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center. Educated at Cambridge University and the Architectural Association, Shumon has begun a doctorate at the newly established Goldsmiths Centre for Research Architecture.
