Our goal is to develop stronger global citizenship among people in the UK and worldwide. Global citizenship not only builds understanding of how countries, cultures and people differ but also builds a strong awareness of the values that we share. By fostering trust and understanding between people, communities, faiths, nations and cultures we help to address major issues such as sustainable economic growth, social cohesion, unemployment and mitigating the effects of climate change. We are involved in far reaching programmes around 'Culture and Development' and 'Culture and Conflict'.

Global Changemakers

60 young people, from countries as diverse as Kenya, Ireland, Swaziland, Tanzania, Bosnia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Great-Britain, Cameroun, to cite only a few, will gather in Brussels for the Global Changemakers Euro-Africa Summit between the 23rd – 28th of June 2012.

Transatlantic Network 2020 TN2020 is a multinational programme that brings together a diverse group of European and North American young influencers from various backgrounds, with the purpose of revitalizing transatlantic and global links for the future. 16 TN2020ers recently participated in the prestigious Brussels Forum organised by the German Marshal Fund.

Conflict and cultural relations

We are currently partnering Chatham House in a two-year study to examine the cultural aspects of international security. This major international study will explore the theme of values, norms and behaviours and intercultural dialogue.

The British Council recently brought together European organisations active in the field of culture and development to create a strategy to work together in a more targeted and coordinated way.
