On 3 March literary venue Passaporta opened its doors to an almost exotic art form: four poets from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales performed their work in Gaelic, Welsh and English. The poetry reading was a tribute to cultural belonging and identity, issues at heart of every nation, not only the UK. Antony Dunn, invited by the British Council was performing alongside Aonghas Macneacail, Ifor Ap Glyn and Damian Gorman. The poets had a very receptive and cheerful audience:
“The poets 'on display' (as it were) represented a spectrum of inspirations and, go on let's say it, cultural diversity. And a hell of a lot of humanity too. Great stuff!” (Nick G., freelance teacher)
The event was organised together with the EU Offices of the Welsh Assembly Government, The Scottish Government, the Northern Ireland Executive and the British Council - along with their partners het Beschrijf (the Brussels based Flemish literature agency), the Academi (the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society for Authors), the Wales Literature Exchange, Literature across Frontiers and the Scottish Poetry library.
