“Globally connected, locally engaged”
Active Citizens is a British Council programme in the area of intercultural dialogue and global citizenship. The vision is a world in which people recognise their potential and exercise their responsibility to engage with others in the sustainable development of their communities at a local and international level.
In the second year implementation of the Programme in Azerbaijan the project will also involve young leaders from various cities and regions of Azerbaijan aged 18-35 who play an active role and are able to develop their communities. We primarily aim to work with youth communities where we will train some 20 trainers who will then cascade the training to their own organisations and communities, while tailoring the training to meet the needs of that particular community. This will be followed by social action projects and international exchanges and networking. The project is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The main partner of the programme is Reliable Future Youth NGO.
After the training period the trained Active Citizens trainers will train participants in their own communities in order to coach them to design, develop and implement their own projects around the theme of intercultural dialogue. Active Citizens Programme’s Social Action Projects component is the most crucial and significant part of the Active Citizens programme as the participants get to spread the benefits of their new knowledge, skills and spirit to wider audiences!
